Charles Davis

Charles Leon Davis, 77, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Charles was born August 31, 1947, to James Childs and Eva Atkins Davis. He was raised on a farm by his parents, along with three siblings and many cousins. Charles graduated from East Surry High School, class of 1965. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army (SGT) and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return to North Carolina, Charles accepted a position at Farmer's Bank, later becoming First Citizens Bank for 29 years. After leaving his banking career, he became part of Homeplace Recreational Park as their office manager. Charles married his high school sweetheart in 1970, Judy Childress Davis, a loving union that lasted 54 years. Two children added excitement and laughter to their home, Laura Childs Davis and Ryan Charles Davis. Charles showed his love of God and his family every day. Charles was a role model for many people. When you met him, you had an instant friend, and you were always greeted with a smile. Charles enjoyed camping, spending time in the mountains, beach trips with family, especially at Oak Island, gardening, hunting, and surf fishing. He was a charter member of Ararat Volunteer Fire Department, he enjoyed volunteering at Eldora Handicamp for 35 years, he was also a member of the Longhill Ruritan Club, and many other community events. Charles was preceded in death by his son, Ryan Charles Davis; his parents, James and Eva Atkins Davis; and a brother, Burton Davis. Charles is survived by his wife, Judy; a daughter, Laura; a brother Rex Davis (Leah); a sister-in-law, Phyllis Davis; a sister, Sylvia (Joe) Collins; many nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Tom Childress (Judy); a sister-in-law, Susan Gilbreath (Mark); and a brother-in-law, Tim Childress (Jamie). The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at Moody's at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Interment will follow at Ararat-Cedar Hill Cemetery, at 339 Pilot Power Dam Road, Cedar Hill, NC 27041. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ryan Davis Scholarship Fund, made to First Community Bank, 653 South Key Street, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041; or Ararat-Cedar Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o Norman Jones, 132 Deerfield Drive, Pinnacle, NC 27043.
