Charles Adis Doolin Jr Jr

Charles A Doolin Jr, born in Ashland KY on May 3, 1955, went to the great gig in the sky at KDMC surrounded by family on July 21 at 12:36AM. He was preceded in death by his father Charles A Doolin Sr.

He is survived by his wife Sherylene (Vanover) Doolin; his mother Mary (Phipps) Doolin; sisters Debbie (Danny) Chaffin, Diane Kitchen, Tammy (David) Cannoy, Christy (Tim) Cannoy, Missy (Aaron) Williams; sons Michael (Shawna) Doolin, Christopher (Michelle) Doolin; daughters Angie (Joe) McKinley, Amy (Matt) Workman; grandsons Ace (Katlyn) Doolin, Jake (Maci) Doolin, Bryce Doolin, Tyler Doolin, Jason Staley, Jase McKinley, Branden Workman, Bryce Workman, granddaughters Karley Doolin, LeighAnn McKinley; 5 great-grandkids and host of what he called his "adopted kids"

He was lovingly known as Pops to most who knew him. He was a Kentucky Colonel, and a 3rd generation employee of the City of Ashland, retiring as the superintendent of Water and Sewer Maintenance. He was a master electrician, life-long musician, a mentor and inspiration to us all. He was the most selfless man we've ever known, living his whole life doing for others, always at the ready with advice or a helping hand.

He set the best example of what it takes to be a husband, man, father and grandfather. Charlie and Sherylene started dating when he was just 14 years old, and have been married for 53 years. He was the King of Kings when it came to Dad Jokes and had an infectious laugh that brought joy to anyone in earshot. A lover of guns, God and country, he was proud of his Native American roots. If all dogs go to Heaven, we know he's up there now giving belly rubs and getting doggy kisses while waiting for his turn to jam with his favorite musical heroes and family members who have gone before him.

Visitation for Charles will be held Thursday, July 24, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Steen Funeral Home – 13th Street Chapel. Funeral services will be the following day, July 25, 2025 at 11:00am with burial following at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. All musicians are invited to bring their instruments on Thursday. Pops would love a jam session as we say goodbye.
