Charles retired after 44.5 years of service from Allison Transmission having worked from July 12, 1962 until December 31, 2006. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union #933.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, and his many pets over the years. He also loved reading the paper and working the crossword puzzles.
Survivors include his son, Charles L. Dowell, Jr. (Pam); daughter, Cheryl (Dowell) Hedden (Paul); grandchildren, Charles L. Dowell, III, Suzanne Dowell, and Jordan Hedden.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Suella " Potsie" Dowell and his sister, Annette Holt.
Visitation will be held from 4pm - 8pm Thursday at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00pm Friday, March 13, 2026. He will be laid to rest at Mount Pleasant Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to National Kidney Foundation.
