Charles Herbert "Charlie" Goodness Sr.

Charles "Charlie" Herbert Goodness, Sr., 84, of Sugar Land, died on April 15, 2024, at Harbor Hospice following a kidney cancer battle. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Kathryn Phipps Goodness and Charles Harold Edward Goodness. Charlie was raised primarily by his mother and was a mischievous child. He grew up in Shreveport and graduated from Byrd High School.
He was a circulation auditor for ABC Circulation, traveling the nation and surrounding countries, auditing newspapers and periodicals.
He married Linda Jeanis (deceased) in 1962, with whom he had three children, Theresa, Charles, Jr. "Chuck", and Kelly.
He had a unique style, from socks that started conversations to the finest Hawaiian shirts. He had a great sense of humor and loved to engage with people wherever he was, especially if they had a sense of humor. His facial expressions were entertaining and passed on to his oldest daughter. His good looks were passed on to his son, and his youngest got his ability to playfully engage with most she meets. He was an almost daily member of the H.E.B. "shopping club" and proud lifetime member of frequent flyer programs. He loved to visit the Mercedes dealership, his beloved Mexican restaurant, Carmelo's, and any Hawaiian lanai from which he could see the water. He loved listening to the music of "Meatloaf".
Later in life, he found love with his spouse, Clarice Hopkins, and they've been together 38 years. Clarice and Charlie loved traveling, with some of their favorite places being Hawaii and London. They also enjoyed the theatre, watching shows from the National Theatre in London to the local theatre in Sugar Land and everything in between.
He is survived by his spouse, Clarice Hopkins, and children, Theresa Goodness (Barbara Castille), Charles "Chuck" Goodness, Jr. (Charmyn Dunlap), and Dr. Kelly Goodness (Luis Garcia). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michelle Farnie (Adam Farnie) and Nicole Fontenot (Enrique Berra) and great-grandchildren, Justin Hatfield, Kaitlyn and Hudson Farnie, and Liam Berra, along with niece, Virginia Carpenter, and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his maternal grandparents, Herbert and Daisy Phipps, and paternal grandparents, Herbert and Christine Goodness.
A private graveside service will be held at Pinecrest Cemetery in Atlanta, Texas, where he will be buried next to his mother, Kathryn Phipps Goodness Rose, under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
