Charles Frederick "Fred" Grant, 72, passed away on October 1.
Fred was loved for his sense of humor, loyalty to his team and family, and his ability to see the potential in others. He earned his bachelor and masters degrees from the University of Louisville Speed School of Engineering. As a student, he served as President of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Although he began his career at the Defense Intelligence Agency, he worked for 36 years at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ultimately serving as the Chief of the Reserve Support Branch until 2012 and then as Chief of the Military Branch until his retirement in 2014.
During his time at the Corps, Fred was decorated for his service, receiving the Superior Civilian Service Award from the Department of the Army, the Commander's Award for Civilian Service from the Department of the Army, and the Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal from the Army Engineer Association.
In the last decade, Fred enjoyed volunteering for Kentucky MATHCOUNTS. In his free time, he loved woodworking, Westerns, and grilling hamburgers for his family.
Fred is survived by his daughters Monica Grant (Jonathan Gray) and Stephanie Grant (Jacob Tull Brown) and son-in-law Nicholas Rudovich; grandchildren Abigail Gray, Zachary Rudovich, Grant Rudovich, and Eleanor Brown; and his sister, Regina LaFontaine. He is predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Jane Grant; his daughter, Michelle Grant Rudovich; and his brothers James Grant and Michael Grant.
The visitation will be on October 5, 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Ratterman Southwest Funeral Home on 4832 Cane Run Rd. The funeral mass will be October 6 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. The family encourages donations in Fred's memory to Kentucky MATHCOUNTS.

As an Aunt to Fred´s wife, Jane I will remember him as a quiet, very nice gentleman. He didn´t tell of his many accomplishments and I found his sense of humor to be very different but fun!!
