Charles Hacker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Roberts of Ocala East Chapel on Aug. 1, 2024.
Chuck Hacker, 83 years young of Bunnell, Fla., died July 26, 2024, from
pulmonary complications at AdventHealth Palm Coast. In the terms of his beloved
NASCAR, the checkered flag meant he is home. The son of Adrian Roy Hacker
and Grace Theresa Hacker, he was born in Philadelphia, Penn., and had resided
there for much of his life, until moving to St. Augustine, Fla. In 1999, he and his
late wife, Linda, moved to Palm Coast. Chuck resided in Bunnell for the last
several years.
Having served the community as a professional mechanic for many years,
Chuck always kept cars running. Even in his final days, he explained to his
nephews that the battery in his car was oddly located in the trunk. After he stopped
working on cars professionally, he continued to support his family through long
hours at VAW Aluminum, until his health no longer permitted him to work. His
dogs – including Laddie, Freckles, Shaka, and Kay B – never wanted for a walk,
bath, or brush.
In his retirement, Chuck continued to do what he did best. In addition to
continuing to be the biggest NASCAR fan around, he continued to love and give to
those in his life, including his apartment neighbors who he treated as family. This
characteristic of Chuck was likely borne in large part from his experience earlier in
life caring for his late son, Chuckie, who had cerebral palsy. In return, he was
loved by friends and family, far and wide. His passing calls for us all to take a pit
stop and reflect on the value of family and unconditional love.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Linda; sons, Chuckie
and Charlie; brothers, James and John; and sister, Grace. He is survived by his
daughters, Julie (Scott) and Sandi; nephews, Jim (Becki) and John (Lauren);
nieces, Donna and Debbie (Paul); and numerous grandchildren, extended family
and friends.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to any
humane society, the American Lung Association, or the Marfan Foundation.
