Charles Robert Hemmer II, 75, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 6, 1948, to the late Charles Robert Hemmer Sr. and Mary Ruth (Geyer) Hemmer.
In 1974, he married his first wife, Martha Ann Hemmer and she survives in Bellefontaine. In 1998, he married Sandra Jean “Sandy” Hemmer, and she preceded him in death on July 12, 2022. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Susan Kaylor; brothers: Peter Hemmer and Gregory Hemmer; and a brother-in-law, Richard Martin.
He is survived by his daughters: Sara (Ryan) Ahlers of St.Marys, Ohio and Lindsay Hemmer of Bellefontaine, Ohio; grandchildren: Zachary, Carly, Mason and Gavin Ahlers and Matilda, Dane, and Hannah Larson; sisters: Kathy Martin of Urbana, Ohio and Rebecca “Becky” (Leslie) McDonald of Bellefontaine, Ohio; a brother, Mark (Kim) Hemmer of Huntsville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Stephanie Hemmer of Lima, Ohio; and nieces, nephews, and step-children.
A United States Army Veteran who served in Vietnam, Charles was a 1966 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and retired as a warehouse manager from Nippon Express. He enjoyed to golf, plant flowers in his garden and loved history and collecting coins and stamps.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Church, 316 E. Patterson Ave, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023, at the Eichholtz Daring and Sanford Funeral Home, 321 N Main Street, Bellefontaine. Military Honors will be performed by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard following visitation on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5555 Frantz Road, Dublin, Ohio 43017.
