Charles William Holmes

CORDELE - Charles William Holmes, age 83, passed away while surrounded by his family on Thursday evening, January 30, 2025, at Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Charles was born in Aiken, South Carolina to the late Luther Holmes and the late Nora Carter Holmes. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He is also preceded in death by his grandchildren Dino McGinnis and Blake McGinnis. Charles had the reputation of being a hard worker. He loved toying and tinkering with his old cars and tractors. He was a former member at Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years: Arlene Hughes Holmes of Vienna, Ga.; his children: Tony Forsythe and his wife Penny of Cordele, Lee (Tracy Jackson) Forsythe of Cordele, Ronda Smith and her husband Brian of Cordele, Lyne Holmes Hayslip and her husband Bobby of Cordele, Glennette Goodbread and her husband Robert of Albany, Ga., and Cindy Holmes Gordon and her husband Clint of Cordele; his brother, Marvin "Buddy" Holmes and his wife Terri of Texas; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
