Charles Howard Obituary

Charles D. Howard passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, in Cookeville, Tennessee. Born on November 14, 1943, in White County, TN, to the late Clifford and Dimple Huddleston Howard, Charles lived a full and active life.
A 1962 graduate of White County High School, Charles' work ethic and dedication to his community were evident early on. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of patriotism and duty. Following his service, Charles embarked on a long and respected career at Fleetguard, where he worked in maintenance for 42 years, earning several vocational degrees, before retiring. His loyalty and diligence were hallmarks of his professional life.
Charles worshipped at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and relationships with others.
An active and hardworking man, Charles found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid golfer, a pastime that allowed him to enjoy the outdoors and engage in friendly competition. Gardening was another of his passions, as he took pride in cultivating his land and sharing the fruits of his labor with loved ones. Charles' interest in ancestry and genealogy led him to compile three books of his family lineage, a legacy that will be cherished by his family for generations to come.
Friends will fondly remember the times they spent with Charles during their daily coffee gatherings at Bojangles and Hardees. His laid-back demeanor made him a joy to be around, and he was always ready with a kind word or a friendly smile.
Above all, Charles was a loving and excellent provider for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Dimple Huddleston Howard, his sister-in-law, June Thompson, and by nephews Jeff Howard and Phillip Howard. His memory will be forever cherished by his devoted wife of 59 years, Sharon Farris Howard. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their daughter, Sonia and her husband Ken Mayes, and their son, Trevor Howard and his wife Hayley, whose love and support never wavered.
Charles' adoration for his grandchildren, Adeline Mayes and Colton Howard, knew no bounds. He took great joy in watching them grow and flourish, and his influence will no doubt continue to shape their lives in the years to come.
He is also survived by his brother, Larry Howard of Sparta, and his sister, Glenda Johnson of Cookeville, and by several nieces and nephews, will miss him deeply.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 24, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Kelly Campbell will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in West Cemetery (West Cemetery Rd) in Cookeville.
His family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and again Monday from 11:00 am until service time at the funeral home.
Trevor Howard, Ken Mayes, Chris Farris, James Johnson, Chris Farris, Brian Howard and Eddie Farris, Tom Roberts and Jerry Roberts will serve as pallbearers.
