Reflection of Life
Reverend Charles Jackson, Jr. was born to the late Elizar and Charles Jackson, Sr. on February 23, 1948 in
St. Louis, MO. He attended Dunbar Elementary School and Vashon High School. During his High School years he became interested in sports. He was a member of the Varsity Cross Country, Wrestling, and Track Teams.
Charles accepted Christ at an early age and joined Greggs Chapel AME Church under the leadership of Reverend P. Albert Williams, Sr. Under his leadership, Charles received his calling to the Ministry in 1968. He attended Paul Quinn College. As a student attending college, he pastored several Churches. He returned home and was ordained an Itinerant Deacon in 1970 and an Itinerant Elder in 1972 with the Missouri Conference under the leadership of the late Bishop Harrison J. Bryant. He pastored several Churches in this Conference. It was at one of these Churches, Bethel AME Church in Caruthersville, that he met and married Marilyn McClorn and to that union Marilyn brought her Daughter, Earlene McClorn and they welcomed two children of their own, Sharlletta Jackson and Charles Jackson III. Charles later transferred to the West Tennessee Conference under the leadership of the late Bishop William F. Ball. He joined Salters Chapel AME Church in Dyersburg, Tennessee and it became his home Church under the leadership of the late Reverend B.T. Parham. He pastored several Churches, traveling from Missouri to his Churches in Tennessee.
He later moved to Dyersburg, Tennessee and continued to pastor and also serve as a Supply Pastor at various Churches. One of the Churches Charles supplied was Brown Chapel AME Church in Union City, Tennessee. He remained committed to these Churches until 2004 when he was diagnosed with cancer of the voice box. Once the cancer was removed he had to use a voice box to talk; but after the operation, he was cancer free. He still continued to service and praise God through it all.
In November 2011, his lungs collapsed and his right one had an infection. As a result, half of his lung was removed. He went to a nursing home for rehabilitation and spent 15 months there until his daughter, Sharlletta and his sister came to get him.
Charles was preceded in death by his Father, Charles Jackson, Sr; his Step-father Edward Ewing; his Brother, Willie Rodgers; and his Mother, Elizar Ewing.
He leaves to cherish his memory: three Children, Sharlletta Jackson, Earlene McClorn (Gerald Gaither), and Charles Jackson III all of
