Charles N. Johnson

Charles N. Johnson, Sr., age 101 of West Deptford, passed on November 6, 2025, at Inspira Hospital in Vineland, NJ. Born to the late Gustav and Sarah (nee Ball) Johnson, Charles grew up in Barrington, NJ, and later resided in West Deptford with his family. Charles proudly served in United States Navy for 3 years during WW II. He retired as a dispatcher for the Camden Lime Co. After retirement, Charles worked at his brother's store, "John's Friendly Market" in Haddon Heights, NJ.
Charles enjoyed spending his time as an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, had a knack for constructing model homes, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his son, Charles N. Johnson Jr. (predeceased by daughter-in-law, Pamela) of Texas; daughter, Sandy Shattuck and her husband, Charles of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Wesley and wife, Erin Johnson and Mandy and husband, Nic Griffin; five great grandchildren, Grant, Caleb, and Lydia Griffin, June and Wednesday Johnson; as well as many nieces and nephews. Also, by stepchildren, Robert and wife, Vikki Brown, Diane and husband, Tom McAleer, Laurie, and husband, Felix Gonzalez, three step-grandchildren, and two step-great grandsons.
Charles is predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Barbara (nee Barnard), and second wife, Sylvia Johnson. Also, by his daughter in law, Pamela Johnson, and his siblings, Mary Dubbs, John Johnson, Eleanor Beirne, Ruth Hendricks, Lloyd "Jack" Johnson, Roy Johnson, Bill Johnson, and Josie Moffett.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 9:00am to 10:30am at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street Mantua, NJ 08051 with a Memorial Service to follow at 10:30am. Interment and Military Honors will follow at Woodbury Memorial Park in West Deptford, NJ.
