Charles F. Johnson

Charles Fredrick Johnson, age 80, of Houghton Lake, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Cherry Hill Nursing and Rehab in Westland.

Charles was born on June 3, 1945, in Northville, Michigan, to Charles and Amelia (Sutton) Johnson. He grew up in Northville and graduated from Northville High School, Class of 1964. Charles served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked as an inspector for steel mills in Plymouth before continuing his lifelong profession as a tattoo artist and black powder gunsmith. In 1980, he moved from Plymouth to Roscommon, and in 1983 settled in Houghton Lake, where he remained. Charles was an active member of the Houghton Lake Sportsman's Club and participated as a black powder shooter. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and trapping.

Surviving Mr. Johnson are his daughter, Danielle (Scott) Chesshire of Canton; son, Beau (Jennifer) Johnson of Lowell; four grandchildren, Collin, Chloe, Evan, and Alyson; brother, Mark Johnson of Houghton Lake; sister, Charlotte (Stan) Peterson of Prudenville; and niece, Amber. He was preceded in death by his parents. Son-in-law Dan, and grandchildren Hunter and Morgan.

Funeral services for Charles Fredrick Johnson will be conducted at 12:00pm on Monday January 5, 2025 from Christler Funeral Home-Houghton Lake Chapel . Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday January 5, 2026 from 11:00am until the time of the service at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake.
