Charles A. Johnson

Oakdale - Charles A. Johnson, born on August 19, 1932, in Glenmora, Louisiana, entered into eternal rest on February 21, 2026, in Oakdale, Louisiana. He was the beloved son of Jesse P. Johnson and Mary Elizabeth Strother Johnson.

Charles was a man of unwavering Christian faith and was ordained as a deacon. He proudly served his country for ten years with the United States Army, Reserves, and National Guard. He was employed 32 years with Federal Civil Service with the Department of Army and General Service Administration. In 1973, he played a significant role in coordinating the funeral transportation for President Lyndon B. Johnson's service. He continued his distinguished career and retired in 1994 as Chief Transportation Officer at Fort Polk. From 2013 - 2024, at the age of 91, Charles served the community through his work with the Allen Parish Council on Aging.

A devoted family man, Charles coached his sons' baseball teams. He found joy in gardening, especially growing his well-known tomatoes. Time spent with family and friends brought him great happiness.

He is survived by his children: Deborah Cleghorn (Jerry), Jeffery C. Johnson (Denise), Jennifer Perkins (David), and Kristi Banks (Jamie); twenty-one grandchildren: Derek, Stephanie, Erin, Jeff, Meagan, Mandy, Rebecca, Timothy, Katie, Jacob, Alex, Jessica, Garrett, Keith, Misty, Ron, Kelly, Ashley, Rachel, and Lauren; forty great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laverne Chenevert and Evelyn Johnson; and a host of extended family and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sybil Sue Thames Johnson; his parents; two sons, Robert "Robbie" Johnson and Ronald "Ronnie" Johnson; granddaughter, Mica Johnson; and eight siblings: JB Johnson, Elvin Johnson, Dean Johnson, Carl Lane Johnson, Lenora Ray, Eunice Johnson, Pauline Stanley, and Jewel Johniken.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are his grandsons, Derek Doyle, Keith Johnson, Ron Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Alex Perkins, and Garrett Kingan, with Timothy Johnson and Jacob Ebert serving as honorary pallbearers.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his dear friend, Huey Bertrand; Dodie Daniels, FNP; Allegiance Home Health; caregiver, Sara Johnson; and the compassionate team at Brighton Bridge Hospice for their dedicated care and support.

Charles A. Johnson's legacy of faith, service, love for family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Christ Church of Oakdale on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., then on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Greg Willis will be officiating. Interment will be held in the Union Hill Cemetery.
