Charles Joyal Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 25, 2025.
Charles Richard "Dick" Joyal, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, in Perry, Florida, at the age of 91. Born on August 9, 1933, in Burlington, Vermont, Charles dedicated his life to his family, his career, and his community.
After graduating from high school, Charles served honorably in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1953, where he demonstrated unwavering commitment and patriotism during his service on a Naval Destroyer in Korea. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked for NASA on the Saturn Five Rocket Engines that propelled Apollo 11 to the moon. Dick was a lifelong athlete who once threw four no-hitters as a high school pitcher. He was very active in youth sports as a coach, mentor, and official. Upon moving to Tampa, FL, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a Quality Control Technician in the medical equipment industry, from which he retired at the Critikon Division of Johnson & Johnson.
Dick was a man of service, not only in his profession but also in his community. He was a proud member of the Perry Elks Lodge #1851, where he held the distinction of Past Exalted Ruler and District Deputy. His contributions to the lodge and the community showcased his dedication to service and leadership, and he will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In his personal life, Charles was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Nancy. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. His warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by Nancy and all who knew him.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Alcide and Blanche Joyal; his sister, Marlene Joyal, former spouse, Edith Joyal; and stepson, Kenneth Pitts.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Joyal; his brother, George Joyal; his children, Rob, Chris, James (Kevin), and Barb (Jim); along with 9 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11:00AM at the St. James Episcopal Church with Father Kent officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at 10:00AM to gather to celebrate Charles' remarkable life and the profound impact he had on those around him.
As we reflect on Charles' legacy, we will remember not only the loving family man he was but also the steadfast friend and community leader whose life was a testament to dedication, integrity, and compassion.
