Charles B. Kettering, age 83, of Carrollton, Ohio, finished his journey here on this temporal earth and went on to his eternal home in glory Saturday night, April 19, 2025.
He was born November 19, 1941, in Canton, Ohio and was the son of the late Glenn and Verna (Muffly) Kettering. His first wife, Judith Ann (Arnett) Kettering, whom he married March 18, 1963, passed away on April 6, 2001. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Paul Kettering, who was killed in action in Vietnam, and his stepfather, Clarence Russell Double.
After being quite the scoundrel in his early years, Charles surrendered his life to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 11, 1971, and he was never the same.
Charles engaged in various occupations throughout his lifetime. He worked as a dispatcher for White Star Trucking for many years and eventually acquired his own rig. He was the owner and operator of his own lawn mowing service, CR Lawn Care, which he operated for 30 years. His greatest joy was telling others about Jesus which he joyfully did as a pastor. He served as pastor at Baxter's Ridge Global Methodist Church, the former Union Valley United Methodist, the former Conotton United Methodist Church, and Empire Community Church. He was currently attending Sherrodsville Calvary Church. Charles was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was involved in missions and a faithful attendee of Hollow Rock Holiness Camp. His love of Jesus was known everywhere he went, like league bowling at Atwood Lanes in Dellroy, spending time with horses, to his frequent workouts at the Aultman Fitness Center. He had a habit of striking up conversations with total strangers and sharing Jesus with them; many of whom became his friends.
He is survived by his second wife, Melody (Walker) Kettering, whom he married on October 21 2001; his four daughters, Machele (Ron) Eick of Malvern, OH, Lynda (Jim) Shalosky of Dover, OH, Roberta (Richard McIntyre) Hendershot of Ravenna, OH, and Kristen (Scott) Lane of Chicago, IL; his brother, William (Donna) Kettering of Malvern, OH; his three step-children Lisa (Rick) Truman of Carrollton, OH, Teresa (Jesse) McLean of Springhill, TN, and Dan (Amanda) Mohn of Carrollton, OH; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren.
Charles will be laid to rest at Baxter's Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday April 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Baxter's Ridge Church where a Celebration of Life service will commence at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to his beloved ministry, Hollow Rock Holiness Camp at www.hollowrock.org. The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home in Sherrodsville has been entrusted with the arrangements. To leave an online condolence message please visit the funeral home website.
