It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Charles (Chuck) W. Kidd of Mentor, Ohio. He passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, at the age of 86 after a long battle with Father Time.
Born on March 2, 1939, in Euclid Ohio, Chuck attended St. Christine Parish School and Euclid High School. After a few adventures he began working at White Motor Company where he fully engaged as the UAW representative. He married the love of his life, Shirley A. Hlabse, on May 11, 1963, at St. Christine. The couple moved to Mentor where they spent the next 23 years. When White Motors closed, Chuck walked into a real estate office and asked what he needed to do to sell houses. His next adventure was a as a trusted Realtor for 15 years. Chuck and Shirley moved a few times, landing in Bonita Springs where he enjoyed the sunshine, beach, spending time with friends and being the "Naples Stud". They alternated being snowbirds with living at Kennessee Campground in the summers where their circle of friends grew exponentially. This place has special memories for his whole family. They moved back to Mentor 3 years ago to be closer to family and friends.
Chuck was very passionate about many hobbies throughout his life. He was a jogger for 20 years, getting in a daily run of 5 miles. He purchased a Honda Goldwing motorcycle without ever having been on one! He learned how to ride in the back yard. He rounded out his hobbies by assembling his childhood train set into a large city adding multiple trains and buildings. He loved his accordion, playing golf and planning cruises/parties for his friends.
Chuck was known for being an old soul. He could have been born 100 years before his time and loved every second of it. Being outside, at the beach or in the snow, made him feel at peace. He would lay in the sun and yell "bake me Father"; believing that heaven is in the center of that heat. His Catholic faith was evident throughout his life with his devotion of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. His granddaughters, Camden & Quinn brought him great joy by challenging him with dance moves, sassiness and love.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Jean Kidd, brothers Carlton, Gerald and William. Chuck is survived by his wife, Shirley A. (Hlabse) Kidd, of 62 years, their daughter, Jennifer (Kirk) A Dammeyer, and granddaughters Captain Camden C. Dammeyer, USAF and Quinn G. Dammeyer, his Nephew Daniel Kidd, who was like a son to him, sister Patricia Varga, brother Richard Kidd and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Brickman Bros. Funeral Home, 37433 Euclid Ave. in Willoughby on Sunday June 1, 2025 from 3-6 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday June 2, 2025 at 9:30 AM at St. John Vianney Church. 7575 Bellflower Rd. in Mentor. Entombment will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Hospice of Western Reserve in his name. We know that he is dancing and playing polkas in heaven.
