In Loving Memory of Charles A. Lapkiewicz
Charles A Lapkiewicz, 24-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, cherished member of the Ferko String Band, and loving husband and father passed away on October 27th, 2025 at the age of 84.Born and raised in Philadelphia, Charlie devoted his life to serving the community he loved. Joining the police force in 1970, he quickly earned a reputation for integrity, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Throughout his distinguished career, he served in multiple precincts, mentored young officers, and became a local celebrity after he was featured a couple times on the television show “Cops” while they were filming in Philadelphia.
Beyond the badge, Charlie was a proud member of the Ferko String band for many years, one of the city’s iconic Mummers string bands. Whether marching down Broad Street on New Year’s Day or rehearsing late into the night, he looked forward to his time with the band. He often said that playing with the band was one of the best memories.
He is survived by his wife Cecilia, daughter Mary, daughter Theresa (David), son Mark, and 4 grandsons Desmond, Rhys, Jimmy, and Theo, as well as a wide circle of family, friends, fellow officers, and bandmates. His legacy lives on in every life he touched — on the beat, on the stage, and through the endless stories that his family will continue to tell.
A visitation will be held on November 10th 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Catholic Church, 127 E. Howard St, Stowe Pa 19464, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St Gabriel Memorial Fund, supporting Charlie’s home parish. Charlie loved his family and his faith.
