Funeral services for Charles "Chuck" Lester, 86, of Marshall will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2024 in the chapel at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home in Henderson with Torrey Wylie officiating. Interment will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Timpson.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the funeral home.
Mr. Lester passed away on April 8, 2024 in Tyler. He was born July 1, 1937 in Baytown, Texas to Oran and Helvi (Matola) Lester. Chuck grew up in the Houston area before joining the United States Navy. He served during the Vietnam War and was stationed on many different ships including the USS Guam and the USS Kitty Hawk and became a Naval Instructor. After retiring from the Navy, Chuck moved to Marshall in 1975 and started his own Steel Contractor and Construction business which eventually became TecSteel. Chuck enjoyed helping his family whenever he could. He was always building something and took great pleasure in woodworking and listening to Bluegrass music. Chuck was a member of St. Mark's Methodist Church and volunteered to help with anything that needed to be done. As a Navy Veteran, Chuck enjoyed being a part of and helping with different organizations such as the American Legion, and especially the Fleet Reserve Association, which he served as the president eight times since 1992.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Oran and Helvi Lester; and sisters, Doris Atkison and Edie Hull.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Lester; son, Dean Lester and wife Cancee; daughter, Dee Wylie and husband Torrey; brother, David Lester, sister, Margaret Tullis; grandsons, Dean Lester Jr., Trace Lester, Trevor Lester; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Dean Lester Jr., Trace Lester, Trevor Lester, Glen Tullis, and Steve Tullis. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Thurman and Dave Lester.
