John Lester passed away March 12, 2025 after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born March 26, 1953 to Joseph Lester and Mary (Yarabek) in Tarrytown, NY, both are deceased. He was a loving husband to Catherine Lester (Coughlin), and father of Daniel Lester (wife, Angela) of Valhalla, NY, Eric Lester (wife, Samantha) of Thornwood, NY, and Christopher Lester (wife, Jacqueline) of Valhalla, NY. He was a proud Papa to Nasir Clarkson, Aidan, and Kieran Lester of Valhalla, NY, and Steven and David Lester of Thornwood, NY. John was the brother of David Lester (deceased) and Rosanne Peterson of Bakersfield, CA, and an Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
John worked for the Westchester County Department of Corrections starting in 1976 until he was appointed as a police officer for Conrail Railroad in March 1978, transitioning to the Metro North Police Department in March 1990, and finally the Metropolitan Transit Authority Police Department in January 2016 for a total of 41 years in civil service.
John was a lifetime member of the Thornwood Fire Department where he had many friends, he joined the department in 1972.
John's hobbies were playing a nice round of golf and a good game of bowling. He enjoyed traveling, having visited places such as Alaska, England, Ireland, Wales, and several cruises as well, but his happiest times were the summers he spent with his family at Long Beach Island, New Jersey.
