LOUTZENHISER
Charles Franklin Loutzenhiser, Jr., King of Columbus's irreverent Fourth of July Doo Dah Parade, died at Grant Medical Center with his wife, Deb, by his side loudly playing his favorite rock n' roll music, on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Preceded in death by parents Charles F. Loutzenhiser Sr. and Kathryn Stall. Survived by his wife and Doo Dah Queen Deborah "Deb" "Mz Doo Dah" Roberts; brother Larry and wife Shannon Loutzenhiser and his daughter Samantha Loutzenhiser and son Michael Loutzenhiser; sister Debbie Freye her husband David their son Christopher and his gal Kylie, and daughter Jaquelyn and her husband Johannes Strattner; cousins Carol Jacobs, Dana and Brian Doeblin, and Uncle Ernest Jr and Aunt Jacintha. His two dogs Lucy and Pearl. On his married side of the family; Mother-in-Law Carol Gibson, Sisters-In-Law Martha Neilson Roberts, Leona Roberts, and Dianna Roberts, Brothers-In-Law Ed Roberts Sr and Jeff Roberts, Niece Lisa Roberts Davis, Nephews Kyle Roberts and Ed Roberts Jr and Steven Neilson, and great nephews Steven Jr & Christian Neilson. And special friends, Tom & Karen Gorman.
Charlie and Deb had a fun and exciting 25-year marriage that started with a wedding by Goodale Park Pond on March 21, 1999. Luckily, they both decided to show up.
Before taking on his role as Doo Dah King, Charlie went to Bowling Green University, then earned his Law Degree at the University of Toledo. After Law School, Charlie went into politics and became a card-carrying Democrat. Lot of great memories he helped a Mayor of Toledo get elected and a Corner of Toledo elected, mostly he loved riding around the State with Anne & John Glenn campaigning and then for campaigning alongside future Governor Dick Celest for election and reelection.
Then he spent almost 30 years serving the people of Ohio as Staff Attorney and Law Review Judge for the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. Besides writing the Ohio Percentage of Income Payment Plan law, he wrote other utility laws protecting the people from big utility companies.
Charlie cherished his friends from everywhere in life, but foremost his Woodmore High School classmates of 1970, especially his championship basketball teammates & team manager and coach. He loved his Doo Dah family too. He was a Boy Scout, an Eagle Scout, & an Order of the Arrow badge holder. Charlie was a past Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E); member Benzie County F.O.E. #3313 and member Columbus South Side F.O.E. #2244.
Doing one of his favorite hobbies, fishing the AuSable River with dad, Big Chuck, and brother Larry gave way to "fishing stories" enough to fill a book. Of course, there was always that super big trout that got away.
After renovating and restoring one of the big monster houses in Victorian Village on Buttles Avenue and spending 25 years there, Charlie & Deb moved to the South Side where he served four years as District #4 Commissioner on the South Side Area Commission, helping residents and businesses restore their homes and flourish in their businesses. He also worked closely with several block watches and civic associations in the neighborhood.
Charlie's family and friends will celebrate his life with a birthday party on April 27, 2024, his 72nd birthday. The event will be held at the Big Room Bar, 1036 S. Front St. Columbus, from 12 noon until 4 p.m. Bring a Charlie story to share.
Charlie as well as his family welcome donations in his memory to Friends of Doo Dah at www.DooDahParade.com.
