Charles Wayne "Chuck" Margavio

Charles "Chuck" Wayne Margavio passed into eternal rest on September 24, 2025, after a brief illness at the age of 67. Chuck was born in New Orleans but raised in Harahan, where the Batture and the Mississippi River were his playground. He & his lifelong friends built the first bonfire on the levee in Harahan that was lit on New Year's Eve. The tradition continued for 10 years. He graduated from Bonnabel High School in 1976. As a third-generation cobbler & talented leather craftsman, he owned & operated Bayou Belts & Shoe Repair until his health forced him into retirement.

As a proud member of the Krewe of Thoth, he enjoyed the camaraderie with his fellow riders of the Iconic Royal Barge. Chuck was an avid sportsman and a great cook; his duck & sausage gumbo was well-renowned. He spent many summers boating and water skiing with family and friends. Countless adults and children learned how to water ski because of him. His love of fireworks will live on through his son, grandchildren, and nephews. Chuck was well known for his teasing sense of humor, and you always knew he would like you if he gave you hell. He was a generous, loyal, and firmly opinionated man who will be missed by all who knew him, but his crowning joy in life was his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alice Margavio. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Stephanie Roccaforte Margavio, as well as his son, Wayne Margavio and his grandchildren, Landon, Harper & Olivia; two sisters: Deborah Margavio, Cindy (Lee) Fox, brothers- in-law Frank, David & Andrew (Lisa) Roccaforte, sisters-in-law Alicia Hayward (Kenny, deceased) and Michele Roccaforte, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Greenwood Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a Mass to follow in the Chapel, and internment at Greenwood Cemetery.
