Charles Peter Marshall

Charles Peter Marshall Jr. was born on June 23, 1958, in Nashville, Tennessee, Davidson County. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Tiffany Marshall; his sister, Joyce Thompson; his cherished granddaughter, Shontrell Jobe; and his parents, Charles Peter Marshall Sr. and Mattie Marshall, whose love, guidance, and strength shaped the man Peter would become. On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Peter peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a powerful legacy rooted in faith, family, service, and love.
Peter was educated in the Davidson County Public School system and proudly graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1976. During his high school years, he excelled on the basketball court and developed a lifelong passion for skating. Whether gliding effortlessly on skates or moving with confidence in everyday life, Peter carried himself with unmistakable style, pride, and joy that others admired and remembered.
At a young age, Peter gave his life to God, and his faith remained a guiding force throughout his journey. He dedicated over forty years of faithful service to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was respected for his dependability, integrity, and tireless work ethic. Peter took pride in walking the halls of Vanderbilt, forming genuine connections with coworkers and patients alike. His compassion and kindness were evident in every interaction, and he treated everyone he encountered with dignity, patience, and care. To many, he was more than an employee, he was a steady presence and a source of encouragement.
Peter had a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed skating, listening to music, collecting albums, and always being impeccably dressed. Sundays were reserved for washing his car, a ritual he took pride in, and he found joy in visiting the park, watching movies and television, and bringing loved ones together for family gatherings. Known as the undisputed king of spades, Peter loved friendly competition, laughter, and togetherness.
Perhaps one of Peter's most cherished qualities was his wisdom. He was widely known for giving great advice to family and friends. Peter's comforting words were thoughtful, honest, and rooted in love. Whether offering guidance during difficult moments or sharing lessons learned from his own life experiences, Peter's counsel carried weight and meaning. Many leaned on him for direction, comfort, and perspective, knowing his advice came from a place of sincerity, strength, and care for others. Peter leaves to cherish his memory four devoted daughters: Tamela Ensrud, LaTresa Jobe, Tamika Moore, and Tonika Moore; five cherished grandchildren: Demontez Burse, Kennedy Jobe, Tikyra Marshall, Tamorrian Marshall, and Christrian Hockett; and two great-grandchildren, Layla Burse and Aaliyah Burse. He also leaves two loving sisters, Allison June Eggleston (Jahi Eggleston) and Janice Smith; one beloved uncle, Charles Robins; his devoted partner, Annette Holbert; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Peter's life was one of purpose, compassion, and quiet strength. His presence, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
