Charles Mayger Obituary

Charles David Mayger, 75, of Latrobe, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at his home. Born March 20, 1950, in Forest Park, GA, he was the son of the late George F. Mayger and Sue (Nash) Mayger. Dave grew up in a military family and spent his early years living in Georgia, Germany, and Hermosa Beach, CA (his favorite of them all). He was committed to the tradition of service to his country, so he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Later, he would serve in a different capacity, volunteering with the Red Cross in New Orleans and Texas following Hurricane Katrina to support recovery efforts. Prior to his retirement, he had worked at SCI Greensburg for 27 years, initially in the commissary and then becoming a vocational coordinator, counseling inmates concerning careers. His counseling extended beyond the walls of SCI Greensburg, as in his free time, he enjoyed "counseling" many of his children's friends out back around the bonfire. He was a longtime member and officer of the Fox Hill Club and AMVETS Post 88 in Greensburg and had been a proud Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America. A gentleman farmer, he enjoyed tending to his various gardens, loved fishing, especially with his buddy Jeff, and swimming in the ocean. Dave appreciated a clean truck and enjoyed reading the daily newspaper in a timely fashion; his passing now brings an end to a longstanding feud with the paper deliveryman. An avid sports fan, he loved the Pittsburgh sports teams as well as Penn State. Family and friends were very important to Dave, and he loved spending time with them and cooking for them. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Mayger; and a sister, Ann Perkins. Dave is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen (Clister) Mayger; daughter, Heather Mayger Sedlacko (James McBrier); son, Matthew Mayger (Amanda Mayger); grandsons, Miles Sedlacko, Vincent Mayger, and Elliott Mayger; siblings, George Mayger (Darlene), Weyman "Bubba" Culp (Linda), and Carmen Mayger Biltgen; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. Private interment will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Red Cross, Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter, 250 Alpha Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15238.
