Charles D. "David" McCarthy

Charles D. "David" McCarthy, 64, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026 at his home in Wheatfield Township.

Born on August 2, 1961 in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada, he was the oldest son of the late Jeremiah J. and Emma Marie (Fudge) McCarthy.

David proudly served 18 years with the Canadian Armed Forces, first in the Air Force, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant Major. After an incident that left him blind in his right eye and deaf in his right ear, he moved to supply and logistics with the Army, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His service included many overseas tours. He earned numerous medals and awards and had what his wife laughingly called his "shrine to himself", a wall filled with those medals and awards. The above photo was taken the day he proposed. He told Lori he looked so good, she needed to take his picture! He was also a middleweight boxing champion for the Canadian Army in 1979-1980, with 39 wins, 0 losses and 32 victories by knockout.

He worked as a warehouse supervisor for many years and was currently employed by Blue Ridge Cable.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lori (Weldon) McCarthy, his brother, Greg McCarthy and his wife, Susan, of Toronto, Canada, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Brian McCarthy and Darren McCarthy.

David loved to read, watch movies, be the engineer of his train collection and was a Civil War history buff. His "man cave" was filled with Civil War prints and memorabilia. He spent many days exploring Gettysburg Battlefield and enjoyed traveling to other Civil War battlefields with his friends. He enjoyed family holiday dinners and put away more than his share of good food.

He will be missed by family and friends who are grateful for the memories he leaves behind.

In keeping with David's wishes, there will be no services.
