Charles McCullough Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 24, 2025.
Charles Lamont McCullough Sr., a beloved father, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, at Oakland Veterans Hospital. Born on January 17, 1962, in Fairmont, WV, he was a cherished son of James Charles McCullough Sr. and Phyllis J. Womack.

After graduating from South High School in 1980, Charles proudly served in the United States Army as a Construction Equipment Repairer and Sharpshooter, earning several ribbons, citations, and badges for his service.

Charles spent over a decade working as a custodian at the VA Hospital on the H.J. Heinz Campus, where he was known for his dedication and compassion. Emboldened by his faith and dependency upon God, Charles was also an active member of the Pathways to Christ Church in Washington, PA.

Sports were a passion of Charles-whether shooting hoops on the basketball court or cheering for the Miami Dolphins on game day, he enjoyed sharing those moments with family and friends.

Charles will be deeply missed by his wife, Gena McCullough, and his four children Cassandra N. McCullough, Candace N. McCullough, Charles L. McCullough Jr. and Devin L. McCullough, who will carry his spirit forward. He also leaves behind his bonus children, Andron Pippen Sr. and Mikayla Acie, and his furry companion, Blu McCullough.

Charles had a big heart for family, and he is also survived by his mother, Phyllis (Ronnie) Womack, and a sprawling family of siblings: Yvette Harrison, Patricia Best, James Charles McCullough Jr, Sharlene Simms, Johnnie (Eve) Washington, David McCullough, Lisa McCullough, Michele (Andre) Savoy, Ron Rodgers, along with 17 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and a host of relatives and friends who loved him dearly.

Charles was preceded in death by his father James Charles McCullough Sr., daughter Ke'Ara M. McCullough, sisters Jacqueline and Shirl Ann McCullough, and brother Ryan Rogers-his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. In this time of sorrow, let us remember the joy and laughter Charles brought into our lives. His light will continue to shine in our memories, and his legacy will live on in the love he cultivated.

In celebration of Charles' remarkable life, there will be a public viewing from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m on Tuesday November 25, 2025, at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown. The funeral service with military honors will be held at 12:00 noon with Rev. Lewis Macklin presiding as the celebrant.

At this time of intimate need and personal loss, the family of Charles Lamont McCullough Sr. elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care, along with Transitional After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, 330.782.8500.
