Laura Lewis Obituary Laura (nee Huston) Lewis passed away Wednesday October 29th, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 16, 1953 in
Willoughby, Ohio to Bruce and BJ Huston. In her teen years, she was very active as a counselor with the YMCA. She graduated from Willoughby South HIgh School in 1972 before heading to Kent State University to pursue her degree in Parks and Recreation. It was at Kent that she met the love of her life, Ken. After just 6 weeks of dating, they got engaged and were married August 31, 1973.
After graduation, she became the Assistant Director of the Parks and Recreation department in Willoughby and would later become the Director. Creating fun and creative programs for kids was something Laura loved. In 1980, she became a mother giving birth to her son, Adam. She would welcome her daughter, Lindsay, to the world soon after in 1982.
In 2001, Laura and Ken opened a restaurant in Mentor, OH. Originally working with a franchise called Buffalo's Cafe and later, in 2004, became the independently ran Branding Iron Cookhouse. Laura was able to work closely with her family during this time and loved her regular customers.
In 2011, she became a Grandmother for the first time and then welcomed 3 more grandchildren in the next few years. Laura adored her grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them, especially making Christmas cookies and decorating her Christmas tree. She loved having them over and teaching them games and manners.
In addition to spending time with her family, Laura was amazing with making stained glass pieces with her husband, which she sold at local art shows. She also enjoyed walking her pug, Emma, and chatting with neighbors. When the weather cooperated, you would find her at her beach looking for beach glass or reading her Bible. Laura loved music, especially when sung by her husband, and was a big fan of the series Survivor and the Amazing Race. She never missed one of her grandkids sports and could be heard cheering throughout the park. Her love and positivity will remain with us forever.
Laura was the beloved wife of Ken Lewis; loving mother of Adam (Tiffany) Lewis and Lindsay (nee Lewis) Sayre; cherished grandmother of Joel Sayre, Zackary Sayre, Troy Lewis and Lucy Lewis; sister of Linda, Jay, Grace and Susan; sister-in-law of Sue (Don), Jeanette (Jerry) and Virginia (Tim); and aunt of many.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and BJ (nee Bender) Huston.
The family will receive visitors at Mayfield United Methodist Church in Chesterland, Sunday November 2 from 1pm to 3pm. A service will follow at the church at 3pm followed by a reception for those that would like to share memories with each other.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
