Charles Douglas Norling, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home on October 24, 2024, in Hendersonville, NC. Born on June 24, 1939, in Minneapolis, MN, he lived a full and vibrant life of 85 years.
After relocating several times over the years with his work in sales, he resided in the Chicagoland and Lake Summerset areas of Illinois for many years. He held several different professions throughout his life some of which were repairing radar equipment for the U.S. Air Force, glass blowing, excelling in sales and owning his own small business.
Chuck was a man of many interests. One of Chuck's favorite things was fishing. Nothing could keep him from being on the water. He shared and brought that passion to his own children and ultimately his grandchildren. He also became an avid golfer - both loving being on the greens and watching the sport. He was a lifelong woodworker. He perfected his craft and could design and make anything that someone would request and enthusiastically get the job done. A devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings, he relished every game day. Throughout his life he enjoyed traveling to different places all over the world with his wife and family.
Family was very important to Chuck. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Judith A. (Swanson) Norling, and their three daughters: Kelly J. Cornille (Christopher), Lori A. Penninger (Peter), and Kristin K. Pebler (John). His legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Kyle C. Cornille (Michelle), Jordan B. Cornille (Alexandra), Miranda R. Magoon (Ryan), Chloe R. Cornille, Max Thompson (Katie), Noah Thompson (Danelle), Orion Penninger (Melissa), Rebecca Penninger, Jacob McNabb (Heather), Madison Gibbs (Alex), Olivia Pebler, and Nathan Pebler. Charles was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Lily B. Cornille, George R. Cornille, Lincoln Thompson, Gracie Thompson, Evelyn Penninger, Witt McNabb, Rhett Gibbs.
He is fondly remembered by his brothers Daniel Norling (Carla), Paul Norling (Bev), and Larry Norling (Kitty). Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert H. Norling and Doris C. (Norling) Vincent as well as a sister Donna Grandy and a brother Leonard Norling. He was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews and many great lifelong friends.
We will all remember Chuck for his wit, wisdom and ways.
At this time no services are planned. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to ALS research or a charity of your choice.
