Charles Scott Ozmun of Mundelein, IL age 70, passed peacefully in his home on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Scott was born on May 21, 1955 in Highland Park, Illinois to Donald Blaine and Louise Ozmun. Scott spent his years growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, Utah and Montana. After high school, his adventurous spirit led him to work on the Alaska pipeline.
Scott was a vibrant personality, known for his passion for cars, motorcycles, boats, and planes. He had a remarkable affinity for all things that moved, often found cruising on his beloved Harley or in a shop, where he dedicated countless hours to building and customizing his rides. A true gear head with a mind that was always creating; he built, owned and operated a car wash in Utah. That led him to earning "Car wash of the year". His creative mind was always starting a new project, business or venture and it is what built his success. Scott truly followed his father's footsteps as a respected businessman as fourth generation owner and president for 40 years of Crescent Cardboard Company in Wheeling, IL. He guided the company with a deep knowledge and hands-on approach. He brought the business to another level with expansion in Europe and buying out his largest competitor, Bainbridge in 2020. Everyone who knew Scott was lucky enough to hear a story or two about his adventures. He left a lasting impression on so many people with his strength and grand gestures.
Scott eventually planted his home in Illinois as he ran his businesses, but Montana was always home to him with his beautiful ranch with many animals. Scott was an avid animal lover with a black lab always by his side. Nikki has been waiting for him and Daisy May will miss him dearly.
Scott is survived by his devoted wife of 12 years, Sharon, his beloved son, Matthew; his grandsons, Ricky, Henry, and Matthew; his step-children, Chelsea(Ignacio), Ashley(Jacob), Remington, Brianne and Emma; his step-grandchildren; Robin and Liesl. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Louise.
A celebration of life will be held for Scott on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 4pm-7pm at the Crystal Creek Farm located at 2025 IL-176, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. All are welcome to join and share with family and friends on this occasion. A private family service will be held in Lolo, MT at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the following organizations in Scott's name: Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter, 2200 Riverwoods Rd, Deerfield or Redemption Road Rescue of Lake County, IL
Arrangements are being handled by McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 847-362-2626. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Charles, please visit our Tree Store.
