Charles D. Packard, 78, Kewaunee, WI, passed away peacefully after a hard fought battle with cancer with his loving grandson, Jonathan by his side. Charles was born on March 15, 1946, in Antigo, Wisconsin to the late Dayton and Wilma Packard. Shortly thereafter his family moved to Atmore, Alabama, where he grew up. After serving in the Army he was hired as head of security at the Kewaunee nuclear plant. Where he then planted his roots and later met his wife Sheila, they married on January 27, 1997. They would’ve been married this upcoming January for 29 years something that Charles was very proud of and looking forward to.

Charles served in the Vietnam war something he was also very proud of. If you ever saw him, you’d know right away that he served his country; he was rarely seen without one of his veteran hats, each one worn with honor and pride. He loved his country deeply and never hesitated to show it. His pride in being an American wasn’t just about the flag he flew or the cap he wore—it was rooted in his gratitude, sacrifice, and unwavering belief in what this country stands for. He was a reminder that freedom is not free, and that gratitude for it should never fade. To him, being an American was something to be proud of every single day, and he made sure everyone around him remembered that too.

In his free time, he often traveled with Sheila, he loved the freedom of the open road. The two of them side by side, on their motorcycles, they rode every chance they got. When not on the road, he enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and time spent at the range. Yet nothing brought him greater joy than being surrounded by family and friends, laughing and reminiscing about the good old days. He was kind, caring and generous and will be forever missed.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Sheila. His son Dayton (Kristy), Step-Children; Casey (Michael), Matthew (Kerri), and Adam. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, and his furry companion Nelson. He was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Bill and John, sister Mildred, daughter-in-law Samantha, step-daughter Kelly and beloved dogs Hawk and Buddy.

A celebration of life will happen at a further date for loved ones. Kinnard Funeral and Cremation Services – Kewaunee is assisting the family. Online condolences can be shared at KinnardFCS.com
