Published by Legacy on Aug. 25, 2025.
Charles Edward Powell, 83, of Lewisburg, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 23, 2025 at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg.

He was born April 14, 1942 in Sophia, WV and was the son of the late Charles W. and Dolly Rose Smith Powell.

Charlie was a master carpenter all his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and before moving to this area from Pennsylvania, had an auto body shop which fueled him to his auto racing.

Although being stubborn at times and did things in his own terms, he was intent with his life and accepted things with no regrets. If you had a moment to spend with Charlie, you became aware of how proud he was of his family. But it cannot be under stated his love for his wife Vena and always adored and made sure she was cared for and not go without.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by a son Jeff Berry; brothers Arby Smith and Jack Powell; and his sister Joann Mauzy.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 33 years Vena Kay Powell; children, Charles "Jr." Powell (Sherri) of New Jersey, Timothy Powell of Pennsylvania, Kimberly Powell of PA., Kenny Powell (Sara) of PA., Rodney Powell (Ginny) of NJ., Sherry Roper (Gary) of Lewisburg, Tawana Martin of Caldwell, Misty Collins (Josh) of Alderson and Dustin Martin (Tina) of Lewisburg; siblings, Janice Hamrick, Gary Powell, Dean Powell and Delores Powell; 28 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charlie will be cremated and his wishes were not to have any services.

The family wishes that memorial contributions be made to the Peyton Hospice House; 1265 Maplewood Ave., Lewisburg, WV 24901.
