A memory of his sense of humor:

On one occasion, he had made an "infinity light," a round box that hung on the wall and created the illusion of an infinite tunnel of light. I was bringing my new wife (who was still learning English) to meet them, and she was nervous about it. When she asked what she would talk about, I described the infinity light to her and said she should mention it.

When the conversation waned, without any context, she turned to Chuck and said, "I hear you have a strange hole in your house." He erupted in good-natured laughter that put her at ease.

Some time later, when he decided to get rid of the infinity light, he offered it to us in memory of that incident, and it hung on my wall for many years until the light burned out.

Now that he is in the infinite light of our Lord that will never burn out, I suspect he's laughing that same soft, good-natured way.
