Charles (Charlie) J. Schwartz
December 22, 1937 – March 16, 2025
Charles (Charlie) J. Schwartz was born December 22,1937, Ashley, Pennsylvania. Catherine Rowles and Casmir Swarcz (Schwartz) had five children, with Charles being their firstborn. As the eldest, Charles assisted and looked after his younger siblings. At age 18, Charles enlisted in the US Navy, where he served as a hospital corpsman for 5 years, earning an honorable discharge HM3 (E4). After the Navy, Charlie rooted himself in Contra Costa County, California, where he began work as a Chemist, working for 42 years with Anamet Test Labs, Inc. in Berkeley/Hayward. Outside of work, Charlie was an avid fan of the Oakland A's, coached Tara Hills Little League, led Boy Scouts, and participated in league bowling, achieving his first perfect game at Golden Gate Lanes Bowling Alley, El Cerrito. He dedicated himself to gardening, cultivating various plants such as dahlias and orchids. He also enjoyed cooking, particularly corned beef and his always perfect smoked salmon. He will always be remembered for his quick witted sense of humor.
Charles (Charlie) J. Schwartz, a cancer survivor, passed March 16, 2025, at the age of 87. He leaves behind his wife, Glenda Schwartz, of 35-years; son, Charles (Chuck) Schwartz and his wife Cathy; daughters, Terri Schwartz & Kimberly Schwartz; his youngest brother, David Schwartz; grandchildren, Michael Sprouse and Michaela Schwartz; and great grandchild Zachary Sprouse.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside service honoring Charles at 12:30pm, Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA, followed by a local gathering. Please contact family for details.
