Charles Shaver Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 12, 2025.
Charles "Charlie" E. Shaver

Age 84, of East Tawas, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, in Tawas City, Michigan. Charlie was born to the late Charles and Grace (Searfoss) Shaver on June 8, 1941, in Gladwin, Michigan. He grew up in Gladwin and following his high school graduation, he enlisted into the United States Army. Charlie served our country proudly from 1959-1961, and was stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal for his diligent work he provided in the military. After his time in the service, he entered the workforce as an Industrial Sales Representative for Chemical Cleaning Supplies. Charlie was employed by General Motors in Flint, Michigan, and later spent time with Zep Commercial Cleaning Chemicals.

On October 22, 1993, Charlie married the love of his life, Donna Shaver. The two spent 26 amazing years together raising a family and making endless memories before her passing in 2019. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, The American Legion, and Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas, Michigan. Charlie was a true outdoorsman. He was known as an avid Bluegill, Walleye, and Steelhead fisherman, as well as a rabbit hunter. Although those were some of his favorite activities to do, there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending quality time with his friends and family in which he adored. Charlie was a tremendous husband, father, son, grandpa, brother, and friend, and he will be missed dearly by many.

Charlie is survived by his children, Charles S. Shaver and Eric L. Shaver; grandchildren, Kyla, Charlie Shaver, Marley Shaver, and Mela Shaver; great grandson, Jack Stewart; and his nephew, Karl Sasse. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Grace Shaver; his daughters, Kimberly Shaver and Sandy Boyd; and his sisters, Vivian Bitler and Myrtle Sasse.

A service will be held for Charlie on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas, Michigan. The family will welcome the public for a time of visitation from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. Following the service, Charlie will be laid to rest at American Legion Cemetery in East Tawas, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorial contributions in Charlie's name towards the American Legion and Auxiliary Post 211 (Baldwin Township).
