Charles Frederick "Fred" Shaw Jr., 77, of Wimauma, Florida left us suddenly on the evening of October 9,2024.
Fred was born on July 13, 1947 in New Haven, Connecticut to his loving parents, the late Helen and Charles Frederick Shaw.
He graduated from Amity High School in Orange, Connecticut. He then attended Fairfield University where he obtained his BA. He later returned to school, this time attending UCONN for his Masters in Public Administration.
Fred worked for the Town of South Windsor, Connecticut for 40 years; retiring as Assistant Director of Public Works Department.
Soon after retiring, he moved to Florida.
In his younger years he played all sports and was a diehard Yankees and Giants fan. He loved fly fishing on the Willimantic and Housatonic Rivers; always making sure to return the fish back to the river so they could be caught another day. Fred enjoyed hiking through the woods and keeping an eye out for various animals and any Native American arrowheads. He was passionate about nature.
His favorite pastime by far, was golf and he played in several leagues during his years in Connecticut with his friends. He even managed to turn his wife, Wendy, on to the sport and she learned to play (and that was after years of her always pointing out that it was so boring to watch on tv that it put him to sleep on the couch).
Fred loved being with family, walking his dog Bailey, and talking to neighbors.
Fred was a wonderful son, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. He will be missed by all who knew him. He always saw the good in everyone and everything. More often than not you would catch him wearing a smile, one that will live on forever in the memories and in the hearts of all who knew him.
Fred is survived by Wendy, his loving wife of 51 years, and their three children Brian, Matt (Matthew), Amy Elizabeth, his brother Richard Shaw, his daughter-in-law Amy Hunt Shaw. His grandchildren; Lauren Marshall (Shaw), Connor, Lia, Carson, Sofia, Isaac, Finley, Emma, Caelan, Hailey and his loving dog Bailey. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either of the following organizations:

Fred Shaw Hired me in 2012 he was a fair supervisor but a even better human, he spoke fondly of his Wife, Children and Grandchildren and he put them first, see you on the other side Fred.

This is indeed sad news. Being a Public Works supervisor for South Windsor, I worked, sometimes closely with Fred. Fred conducted himself in a quiet, confident manor, with complete dedication to his work and the residents of South Windsor. I would ask him about his golf game, but the conversation always came back quickly to the work at hand, showing his dedication. May God Bless all Fred's family and friends for his loss. RIP sweet Fred !!
