Charles William "Chuck" Shidel, 86, of North Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2025. He was born October 19, 1938 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Emil and Madeline (Skiffington) Shidel. Chuck was a US ARMY Veteran, stationed in Greenland and worked in the motor pool repairing vehicles. Upon completion of his military service, he worked in the local steel mill then began taking classes on appliance repair. He had his own business, Shidel Appliance Service for many years where he worked weekends and evenings, and also worked for various other companies including Kelly & Cohen and Sears.

He was a religious man, who was originally raised Catholic and attended the former St. Peter School and Church in McKeesport. During the later years of his life he attended The Norwin Christian Alliance in North Huntingdon, where he volunteered, visiting parishioners in need, assisting with various events and being a handyman, of course. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Charlie was the man that shoveled the driveways of his elderly neighbors without asking for thanks. He showed all of us how to truly be a servant of his fellow man, by his deeds.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 61 years, Judith A. (Dennison) Shidel; son, Charles (Susan) Shidel; daughter, Kimberly Love; grandchildren, Jacob Shidel, Joshua (Felicia Miller) Shidel, Ty Love, Madison Love, Colby (Krista Wycinsky) Love, and Zoah Miller; brother, Paul (Karen) Shidel; and sister, May (the late Carl) Haney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Ice and Lois DeMaio; and his brothers, Richard and Emil Shidel.

He was not an idle man. He worked at least two jobs throughout most of his life, volunteered his time, provided for and took care of others. He drove family members to and from medical treatments, ensured those who couldn’t afford it had food to eat and warm houses to sleep in and most importantly was a friend to those who were lonely. Despite being a self proclaimedshy person, he had an uncanny ability to connect with others - neighbors, servers at restaurants, his children’s friends, and all the staff at the assisted living homes in which he lived.

He was a good husband, a good father, a good son, and a good brother. He was a great man who will be missed by all.

Friends are welcome on Sunday, July 13 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director. Funeral service will be held Monday, July 14, at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Adam Stump, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, Inc., North Huntingdon. Condolences may be made at GilbertFuneralHomeandCrematory.com
