We had a lot of good neighbors who lived on our street in Cliffside Park. The Silverman's were the best. As the newest neighbors on the street, they gifted us with generosity, and kindness and set an example of what good neighbors should be. It was inspiring to watch their 3 children grow into responsible and successful adults guided by parents who set an example of hard work and focus.

I also had the pleasure of working with Charlie in the fire department. He served as our state delegate to the NJFMBA and was well liked and respected by his peers throughout New Jersey. He was chosen to serve on the State Valor Awards Committee which honored the heroic actions of our firefighters. I succeeded Charlie as our state representative and at his last meeting he introduced me to the union officers who were unanimously saddened to see his departure from this role. It can be said that in his tenure, the organization worked tirelessly to pass a lot of legislation that helped firefighters, and their families live a better quality of life that we continue to enjoy today.

Through his work, Charlie raised the professional standards for our members and made our world a better place. He taught me that rank and insignia have nothing to do with what a motivated individual can bring to a public safety organization. May he Rest in Eternal Peace, and may God grant comfort to his family in the coming days.
