Charles Whitmore Skinner, 96, beloved husband of Marie and father of Alan and Richard, passed away on Monday, November 3rd, 2025, at his residence.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church at a date and time to be announced.
Charles was predeceased by his wife Marie and is survived by his son Alan Skinner and wife, Nancy of Richmond, Virginia; son Richard Skinner and wife Wendy of High Point; grandson Charles Skinner of Liberty.
Charles was born in Barahona, Dominican Republic but spent most of his youth in Barbados. He graduated from Harrison College, Barbados and received a full scholarship to Columbia College. After leaving Columbia he moved to Houston, Texas where, in 1954, he met and married his wife of sixty years, Marie. The couple lived in Chelmsford, Mass. for almost twenty years where they raised their two boys. He was active in All Saints Episcopal Church where, among other functions, he served on the Vestry and as a lay reader. In 1977 the family moved to Greensboro where Charles opened the Snelling Personnel Office. Marie joined him a year later as office manager and they worked together for the next fifteen years. The family took numerous trips throughout the country. When the couple retired in 1992, she and Charles indulged their love of travel and continuing education, taking numerous trips throughout Europe and the US. Charles was an active member of St Francis Episcopal Church where, among other functions, he was a member of the Vestry, frequent lay reader and an active member of the Friars Men's Club. In addition to spending time with his family, he was an avid golfer. After losing Marie, he pursued painting and creative writing, culminating in the completion of a novel at the age of ninety. He never met a stranger and formed many life-long friendships. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
