Charles Slavek Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lyndahl Funeral Home on Oct. 7, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Charles "Chaz" Philip Slavek, faithful husband and loving father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 74 on October 4, 2025.

Charlie was born on March 22, 1951 in Chicago, the third of 4 children born to the late Joseph and Josephine (Obodzinski) Slavek. The family relocated to Ashwaubenon shortly afterward where Charlie attended Cormier School. He graduated from Ashwaubenon High school in 1969, where he lettered in Diving and Band. He met Mary Jean Torborg, his wife of 46 years, at a party, impressing her with his juggling act. The two were married on July 10, 1976 at Old St. Joseph Church in De Pere. They settled in Green Bay and became parents to three children. Charlie worked as a metal finisher for 25 years at Ultra Plating Corp. He devoted many years to the Boy Scouts as a den leader and Cub Master. He was a longtime member of the St Patrick church choir and was active in the Tank Neighborhood Association. Chaz was a people person who would strike up a lively conversation with folks from all walks of life. He was a man of many interests and hobbies who loved camping, hiking, hosting family events, cooking, woodworking and drawing. He was an avid gardener and birdwatcher and could fix just about anything. Bonding with his grandchildren was a highlight of his later years, as well as weekly "coffee hour" with his siblings. He often recalled fondly the adventures of his youth including working as a cook, hitchhiking and riding his bicycle across the country, and briefly running away with the circus.

He is survived by children Jacob Slavek, Emily (Curt) Sculliuffo and Evan (Frances) Slavek; grandchildren Julian and Adam Sculliuffo and Mabel Slavek, brothers Martin Slavek and George Slavek, and sister Gerry Slavek. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, brothers in law Bruce Hyde, Tim Bell and Mark Torborg, and niece Allegra Hyde.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct 10, 2025 from 6-8 pm at Lyndahl Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Oct 11, 2025 at 12:00 pm at St. Patrick Parish, Green Bay, with visitation at the church from 11am-12pm.

The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Bellin Memorial Hospital and Woodside Lutheran Home, and to our loving relatives and friends who are such a comfort to us in our time of grief.
