Charles Kenneth Smith, known by all as “Kenny”, a devoted family man, public servant, and friend to many, died December 2, 2025, at the age of 79.
Kenny was born December 25, 1945, in Humboldt, Tennessee. After attending Humboldt High School, Kenny served our country in the United States Air Force, stationed at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines and Travis Air Force Base in Vacaville, California. After his term in the Air Force, Kenny returned to his hometown of Humboldt, where he continued to live until his death. Kenny proudly served in law enforcement with the City of Humboldt Police Department and Gibson County Sheriff’s Department, dedicating years of his life to protecting and supporting his community with pride, fairness, and a touch of charm. Kenny also spent much of his life as a well-loved bartender, where his warm personality, listening ear, and quick wit made everyone feel welcome. Whether in uniform or behind the bar, Kenny had a rare gift for connecting with people from all walks of life. Outside of his family and work, Kenny loved playing golf and enjoying time with his friends at the Humboldt Country Club, watching Tennessee and Ole Miss football, and spending time with his dog, Duke.
Kenny leaves a loving and ever-devoted wife, Sherry Jo Smith, whom he married in 1978 and spent the last years of his life working alongside. Kenny was the father of Richie Smith of Humboldt, Melissa Smith (Robbie) of Milan, and Terri Crider (Chris) of Jackson. He leaves grandchildren, Blake Smith, Jennifer Chaney, Jack Charles Crider, and Mary Margaret Crider, and four great-grandchildren. Kenny also leaves behind his brother, Randy Smith (Tammy), and sister, Charlotte Blurton (Dale). Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Parnell “C.P.” Smith and Mary Lee Castleman, and grandson, Michael Smith.
Kenny will be remembered by all for his sweet disposition and the many lives he touched through both his service and friendships. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Kenny’s family will receive visitors Saturday, December 6th, from 11:00 a.m.– 2:00 p.m., with his funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. at The Church at Sugar Creek in Humboldt. A graveside service will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
