Charles Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A Natural State Funeral Service & Crematory on Mar. 11, 2026.
Charles Delmous Smith was born on June 8, 1959, in Little Rock, AR to late parents, Hosea Medlock and Mary Ann Smith. He attended public school in Hazen, AR and remained in the community. Charles was employed with Jacuzzi's Paint Factory in Lonoke, AR and later Riceland Foods in Hazen until a disabling work accident. Consequently, he recovered through the Arkansas Rehabilitation Association in Hot Springs receiving the Rehabilitant of the Year award in 2000. He learned new work skills and developed a 'green thumb' as noted by plants around his home. Charles learned other skills of wood crafts and making clothes for himself.

Midlife, Charles married Norma Jean Metcalf, and he stayed close friends with his former wife until death. Charles also interacted daily with his cousin Deneen Heard via phone and direct visits. However, his closest family member was his baby sister, Cheryl Smith whom he selflessly became primary caregiver when his mother died.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Hosie Medlock and Mary Ann Smith; 2 brothers, James and Robert Smith, a sister, Barbara Bland, and an uncle, Reverend Joe Medlock.

He is survived by 1 brother, Larry Smith of Sherwood, AR; 1 sister, Cheryl Smith of Jacksonville, AR; a stepson, Nathaniel (Latoya) Harris, and 2 bonus grandchildren, Jeremiah Harris and Saraia Harris all of Arlington, TN. Lastly, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, his home health care team and provider will miss him.
