Charles "Charley" Otis Stokes, 91, of Macon, MO, passed away at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Charley was born on January 9, 1934, in Knox County, MO, the son of Virgil and Sylvia (Buswell) Stokes. He was united in marriage to Velma C. Ayer on April 24, 1965, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clarence. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Macon and the Knights of Columbus. Charley enjoyed reading, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, Kansas City Chiefs Football and spending time with family, which was his greatest joy.
Charley is survived by his wife Velma of Macon, two daughters, Julie Humphrey and her husband Greg of Princeton, MO, and Lisa Grellner and her husband Kevin of Linn, MO, six grandchildren, Tori Hague (Levi), Carter Humphrey (Bobbie), Ethan Grellner (Dakota), Sylvia Grellner, Sydney Grellner, Evan Grellner, five great grandchildren, Hudson and Lawson Hague, Amyah, KaLeah and Quinn Humphrey and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Weldon Stokes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelbina, MO. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Shelbina, with full military honors. On Friday, a Rosary Service will begin at 4:30 pm, followed by a visitation from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon.
