Charles Tate Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis-Watkins Funeral Homes & Crematory - DeFuniak Springs on Dec. 16, 2025.
Charles Edward Tate, age 79, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2025 in Bonifay, Florida. He was born January 21, 1946 to the late Doc Tate and Edner Averett Tate. Charles, or as many of his family called him, "Chick", was a pleasure to be around because of his great sense of humor. Chick was a hard worker and after school he began his employment years as a heavy equipment operator for different companies. He liked to play the lottery, with scratch off being his favorite. He had been lucky enough to have won a few sizable amounts in his time. Riding horses and fishing were relaxing pastimes for him.

He is preceded in death by his wife to whom he had been married to for forty-nine years, Genell; four brothers, Bill Tate, Jim Tate, Doc Tate, Jr and James Harrison; and three sisters, Jeanette Brown, Grace Eldridge, and Ethel Gillman.

Charles is survived by one daughter, Veronica Jackson and husband Jeff, three grandchildren, Charmayne Jackson, Cierra Jackson and Allen Jackson; one great grandchild, Layne Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 19, 2025 at Reedy Assembly of God Church, 1310 Reedy Road, Westville, Florida 32464, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Randon Carroll officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow at Reedy Assembly of God Cemetery.

Arrangements and services are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home of DeFuniak Springs.
