February 6, 1941 – November 4, 2025
Charles Ray Taylor left his loving home on Earth to join the arms of his Heavenly Father on November 4, 2025, at 3:04 a.m.
Charles was born on February 6, 1941, in Breckenridge, Texas, to Thomas and Ruth Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas James Taylor; mother, Ruth Mae Ponder Taylor; his loving wife of forty-seven years, Glynda Taylor; brother, Cecil Allen Taylor; sister, Margie Lee Taylor Stanley; and two daughters, Sheryl Sue Taylor and Donna Kay Taylor.
Charles graduated from McCamey High school in 1959 and he was a member of the Nifty Fifties for many years. He remained a citizen of McCamey till his passing.
Charles loved working in the oil field and retired from Shell Oil Company after thirty-five years of dedicated service. Following his retirement, he worked at the McCamey Hospital for over a decade. During this time, he also volunteered with McCamey EMS and the McCamey Fire Department for twenty-five years.
He had a special place in his heart for the youth of his community and spent many years working with teenagers at the McCamey Teen Center. Charles enjoyed mentoring young people and giving them his time and guidance.
Saying Charles loved football would be an understatement—he had a true passion for the game. He enjoyed watching football on television and he rarely missed a McCamey Friday night football game. The last game he attended was the Centennial Homecoming in 2025, where his great-granddaughter, Taylor Cavazos, was crowned Homecoming Queen—an event that brought him immense pride and joy.
Charles was a wonderful father and grandfather who deeply loved each member of his family. His warmth and affection were evident in every conversation he shared with them.
Known for his great sense of humor, Charles always had a joke to tell and a story to share. He loved recounting memories from his life with family and friends. Baptized at a young age, Charles remained a devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church throughout his life. He had a passion for sharing his knowledge of the Bible with anyone willing to listen, and his church family held a very special place in his heart.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Connie Ramey, Debra Crossland, Cindy Terry, and Britnee Taylor, all of McCamey, Texas; Rondia Taylor of San Antonio, Texas; sons, Allen Taylor of San Antonio, Texas, Alex Taylor of Lubbock, Texas and Ray Hudec of San Antonio, Texas; sons-in-law, Richard Crossland and Rodney Terry of McCamey, Texas and Alex Alvarado of San Antonio, Texas; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at East Side Baptist Church in McCamey, with Reverend Blake Ward officiating. Pallbearers will be Mitch Crossland, Hunter Cavazos, Augustine Cavazos, Cecil Terry, Alex Taylor, Ryan Rodrigues, Marcus Alvarado, Matthew Alvarado, Jennings Crossland, Barrett Crossland, Marquez Taylor, and Eli Delarosa.
