FARMINGTON – Charles E. “Gene” Thompson of Farmington passed away on February 24, 2025, at Mercy Washington in Washington, Missouri at 91. He was born in Flat River, Missouri on December 6, 1933, to the late Vernon Delbert Thompson and Helen Margaret (Henderson) Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Bonnie (Hammers) Thompson in December of 2024; and special aunts, Charlotte Henderson and Julia Dempsey.
Gene grew up in St. Louis and when he was young, he spent many summers visiting his Grandma Henderson in Flat River. Those summers brought him many happy memories of adventurous activities.
He attended high school in St. Louis and went to work at an early age for the Boswell Hardware Company in Farmington. Many will remember Gene as an agent for Prudential Insurance in the Farmington area. He retired from his long and successful career after 35 years. He had a talent and a passion for woodworking, a hobby that became more of a full-time occupation. Many of his woodworking projects are pieces he built for the City of Farmington and other prominent local citizens and businesses. He and Bonnie always enjoyed traveling and antiquing. Gene had been a member of the Farmington First Christian Church for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel L. (Lori) Thompson and Jeffery D. (Valerie) Thompson; grandchildren, Shawn Ross Thompson, Nicole Elizabeth Brown, Zackary Taylor Thompson, Makayla Kristen O’Halleron; great-grandchildren, Marky Brown and Kate Thompson; and a sister-in-law, Janet.
Visitation will be held at Cozean Memorial Chapel in Farmington at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2025, with a service to follow at noon in the Cozean Chapel with Rev. Alan Berry officiating. Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens in Farmington. View the video tribute and the online obituary and share your condolences at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
