Charles Gerard "Charlie" Thornton

Charles "Charlie" Gerard Thornton passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, at the age of 76. Charlie was born in November 1948, to the late Raymond and Rosemary Thornton. He was a 1967 graduate of DeSales High School, an avid photographer, and aviation enthusiast. A retired U.S. Navy veteran, Charlie worked for many years in the medical sales and service field. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Kathryn "Kathy" Peacock Thornton, brother Steven Thornton, sister Mary Kolling, and his parents.

Charlie is survived by his three children: Shannon Wild (Alan), Jonathan Thornton (Joe), and Geoffrey Thornton (Melanie); grandchildren, Becket & Ren Wild, and Ben, Mady, & Carson Thornton; siblings Dick Thornton (Jane), Pat Thornton (Mary Jane), Beth Conn (Terry), Jeanne Casper (Steve), Peg Whelan (Billy), and Marla Woods (Tom); brother-in-law Ken Kolling, & sister-in-law Nancy Thornton; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 4th, 2-7 p.m. at the Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home (3800 Bardstown Road, 40218). A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 5th, at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church (7813 Shelbyville Road, 40222), with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery (1600 Newburg Road, 40205).
