It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Milton Ward, fondly known as Chuck, who departed this world on September 11, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born on February 2, 1937, in Winona, Mississippi, he lived a life that truly embodied warmth, love, and dedication to his family and faith.

Chuck's journey began in a time when the world was changing rapidly. He graduated from JJ Knox High School in Winona in 1955, a remarkable institution that represented hope and resilience within the African American community before segregation ended. With aspirations in his heart, Chuck moved to Chicago, Illinois at the tender age of 19. His first job was at the Tootsie Toy Company, but it was not long before he found a new calling in the food and beverage industry. His entrepreneurial spirit flourished as he opened and successfully operated liquor and grocery stores throughout the 1960s in Chicago and San Jose, California in the 1990s then ventured into Henderson, Nevada.

In his personal life, Chuck was a devoted husband and father. He married Iola Waters in 1959, and together they welcomed two cherished children, Keith Ward (Teresa Ward) and Karen Ward. In 1962, he married Evelyn Johnson, completing their family with a son, Barry Gordon Ward, grandson, Brennden Ward, granddaughter-in-law Lauren Ward and great-granddaughter Harley Ward. Chuck’s third marriage was to Beverly Gracie in 1983, who stood by him as a loving partner for the majority of their lives. Among all his treasured children, Bridgette was the youngest, a shining light in his life and, as he often described her, the apple of his eye.

Chuck was born into a loving family, the third of three brothers. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur L. Ward Sr., and his mother, Minne Gary Ward, alongside his brothers, Arthur Ward Jr. and James Ward. His memories will forever be cherished by his wife, Beverly Gracie Ward, and his four beloved children: Keith, Karen, Barry, and Bridgette.

Throughout his life, Chuck remained a man of deep faith, loving the Lord Jesus and instilling those values in his family. Known for his warm smile and loving nature, he was a pillar of support and compassion for all who knew him. Friends and family alike could not help but feel the genuine love he extended toward them.

In their remembrance of him, may we carry forward his legacy of warmth, love, and business acumen. Though he has left this earthly realm, Chuck’s spirit will continue to guide his family, forever alive in their hearts and memories.
