James Roethlin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Canby Funeral Chapel on Jan. 6, 2026.
James David Roethlin passed away on December 10, 2025. Jim chose to be an organ donor to hopefully give someone else a chance for life after he passed. Because of Jim, two patients successfully received lifesaving surgery. In recognition of his generosity, an Honor Walk was held at the hospital on December 11, 2025.

Jim was born in The Dalles, Oregon on June 11, 1963, moving over the years with family to the Portland, Boring, and Bend areas. As an adult he settled is Las Vegas, Nevada for several years before returning to Oregon. He was an amazing carpenter and loved remodeling whether it was a room or an entire home. For the past year he worked remodeling all of the apartments in a downtown Portland hotel that is over 100 years old. As a carpenter and person, Jim was extremely knowledgeable, respected and appreciated.

When Jim was not working, he loved to water ski in the summer and snow ski in the winter, camp with his family and golf anytime and in any weather. He and his father Neil Rogerson had a Christmas eve tradition - play golf! Rain or snow the temperature never deterred them. They just used whatever golf ball fit the occasion - of course if snow the golf ball was a bright color!

Jim is survived by his mother Genny Rogerson; daughters Caitlin Ford and Jeanneil Rogerson; sister Stacey Alexander; brother Wade Rogerson; niece Kayla Rogerson; nephews Wade and Kris Rogerson; granddaughter Willow Avery Grace who was the joy of his life; aunt Linda (Sloan) Heldstab; and cousins David and Jeffrey Heldstab.

Jim as preceded in death by his dad James A. Roethlin; his chosen father Neil Rogerson; sisters Tracey "Buttons" Rogerson and Michele Deits; brother Steve Rogerson; grandmothers Kathleen Sloan and Beverley Lowe; grandfathers Wilburn Sloan and Arthur Roethlin.

Heaven now has a new carpenter. Until we are together again I will miss and love you my Son.
