Charles White, Jr Obituary
Charles A. "Charlie" White, 79, of Long Branch, NJ, passed away on September 16, 2024, in Riverview Medical Center. Born on June 12, 1945, in Red Bank, NJ, Charlie dedicated over 40 years of his life as a volunteer firefighter. He also worked for Sears for 34 years as an appliance repair tech. After retiring from Sears Charlie drove a bus for Durhman Bus Co in Tinton Falls for 6 years, Faust contracting for in the office and semi retired after 5 years.
Charlie attended the Star of the Sea Lyceum K-8th grade, Long Branch High School Class of 1963 and Monmouth Voc School in 1963 receiving a Drafting certificate.
Charlie proudly served in the US Navy from 1965 to 1969. Charlie was deployed to Vietnam aboard the USS Safeguard ARS25. His commitment to community service continued long after his military service, particularly through his role as a volunteer firefighter. Charlie joined the Phil Daly Hose Co #2 in 1969, serving as Captain in 1973 for several years and was elected Treasurer in 1998 where he served until he was no longer able.
He was a devoted member of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation in West Long Branch, where his funeral service will be held. Charlie's faith and community spirit were central to his life.
An avid collector, Charlie's home was adorned with memorabilia from the "Peanuts" comic strip, especially items featuring Snoopy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Agnus Shields White; father, Charles A. White Sr.; sister, Teresa Lyons; Second wife Peggy (Groves) in 1999 Third wife Lorraine (Musantry) 2016 and his beloved cat, Lucy. Charlie is survived by his cousin, whom he referred to as his nephew, Bryon (Jana) Hennessey of Morgantown, WV. Charlie is also survived by his many brothers and sisters in the fire service who have lovingly cared for Charlie over the past years as his health declined.
The Family wishes to extend the deepest gratitude to the friends, neighbors, and congregation members who have gone above and beyond for Charlie. Your support, transportation, meal prep, and companionship have proven invaluable. Thank you all.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 6-8 pm with a Fireman's Service at 7:45 pm at Damiano Funeral Home in Long Branch, NJ. His funeral will take place on Monday, September 23, 2024, at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, 992 Broadway, West Long Branch. A private Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery at a later date.
