Joseph C. Lucia of Toms River passed away peacefully Monday, October 13, 2025. He was 88 years old. He was born and raised in Long Branch NJ and resided in Eatontown before retiring to Toms River in 1995.
He graduated from Long Branch High School and was a proud member of the 1956 State Championship Football Team. Following high school, he became employed by Jersey Central Power & Light where he was a lineman for over 40 years.
He met the love of his life, Mary Ann, on Bath Avenue beach in the summer of 1956. They married in February 1960 and settled in Long Branch. During those years Joe was a member of the U.S. National Guard and a 4th Degree Knight in the Long Branch Knights of Columbus Council #335. While living in Eatontown, Joe was a popular coach of youth sports for basketball and Pop Warner. Upon retiring to Toms River, Joe always enjoyed a good golf game and won many tournaments in the Greenbriar Woodlands Community. He also enjoyed supporting his beloved Philadelphia Eagles.
Joe was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Maria Lucia, sisters Elsie Duncan, Rose Brycki, Florence Robbins, Yolanda Voglino, Frances Smeriglio, Helen Camooso; brothers Tony Lucia, Peter Lucia and Rocco Lucia. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann, daughters Lorri Mellish and her husband James, Maria Lamb and her husband William and son Joseph Lucia and his wife Kristina. Joe lovingly cherished his grandchildren. He was so proud of their achievements and loved spending time listening to all of their adventures. His grandchildren, Corey and Gina Mellish, Matthew and Kylie Lamb and Allison and Zachary Lucia will miss their "Poppie" and his humor, kindness and his love for all their family pets. He will also be missed by Corey's wife Andrea Mellish and their daughter Collette as well as many other family and friends.
Visitation and Memorial Service will be held on Friday November 7, 2025 from 12-2pm at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd, Toms River, NJ and memorial service following at 3pm at Woodbine Cemetery & Mausoleum, 14 Maple Ave, Oceanport NJ
