Dr. Charles Chuen-Shiong Wu passed peacefully at his home in Knoxville, TN on September 29th, 2022. Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1935 to a dermatologist father Dr. Wen-Ri Wu and Mrs. Ran-Yi Fan, he was the only son and oldest to five sisters. After graduating from National Taiwan University medical school, in 1964, he came to New York City for his internship at Fordham Hospital, then residency at SUNY Downstate Kings County Hospital.
He pursued further training in St Paul's Hospital and Shaughnessy Hospital at Vancouver, Canada. He was a Fellow of American Board of Pediatrics with internal medicine training. After two decades of private practice, in 1987 he joined Lakeshore Mental Health Institute, Knoxville, TN as a staff physician. He retired in year 2000.
In 1965 he married Lily Bai-Ho who survives him. They were married at Riverside Church, New York City and had 57 wonderful years together. He is also survived by his daughter Irene S. Wu and son-in-law Joseph Mok of Washington D.C.; son-in -law Paul LeBel and grandson Benjamin Wu Lebel of Morristown, TN; and many nieces and nephews. His daughter Christine S.Wu passed away in 2019.
Dr. Wu was a gentle, kind and compassionate man to his patients, and people around him. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. A member of Second Presbyterian Church, Dr. Wu's Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 18th at 11 O'clock at the church. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial to Second Presbyterian Church, 2829 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919.
